Welcome to the Greystone Program
Located on the wooded grounds of Friends Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia, Greystone Residential is a community residence that serves individuals with severe and persistent behavioral health issues. Founded in 1980, the program is dedicated to helping residents move toward recovery, greater independence and an enhanced quality of life.
About the Greystone Program
With emphasis on the development of daily living and social skills, community inclusion and purposeful activity, the Greystone treatment approach aims to help residents realize their dignity, worth and individual potential. The program is designed to accommodate individuals for several months or serve as a long-term residence. Many residents have chosen to make Greystone Residential their permanent home, while others have transitioned to less-structured environments.
Residents occupy two buildings: the historic Greystone House, former home of the hospital superintendent’s family, and Hillside House, a newer residence built specifically for the program. Both houses are comfortable, home-like settings where residents receive nutritious meals and recreational activities including community outings. Both houses are staffed 24 hours a day and have access to the hospital’s psychiatric and emergency medical services if needed.
Specialized Treatment
Our staff understands recovery from a behavioral health disorder is unique to the individual. Each resident has a multidisciplinary treatment team that can include their psychiatrist, the program nurse and counseling staff. Families are recognized as important members of the treatment team, and their involvement in care and treatment planning is strongly encouraged.
Residents receive medication monitoring, therapy and activity groups and individualized support for the completion of daily activities such as hygiene, food preparation and socialization. The Greystone program is not a locked facility, and residents have access to Friends Hospital’s 100 acre grounds.
